  • "A big bonus is that it stays strapped to your canoe, so no issues with the portages. And there’s no need to permanently attach a centre seat."

    Kevin Callan, Explore Blog

  • "I paddled solo 2 hours of the Rendevous with a slackseat, without a break, and got out of the canoe like it was 15 minutes. I could not believe how comfortable I was using the seat."

    Margaret Harper, Quiet Waters

The challenge with paddling a tandem canoe solo

When you paddle a canoe solo, kneeling in the center keeps you low and at the pivot point. This provides stability and control. It feels like the right place to be.

But then it starts to hurt—it turns out your ankles don’t like being sat on.

The problem with traditional solutions

Kneeling thwarts. Welsh planks. Foam blocks. Stuffed dry bags and soccer balls—each of these help relieve the pressure, but they all come with frustrating trade-offs. The planks require nuts and bolts and unsettling drilling noises, they keep your center of gravity too high, and they transfer the numbness from your ankles to your arse. The stuffed dry bags, balls, and foam blocks require constant fluffing, pumping and rearrangement, and they’re an aesthetic offence to your beautiful canoe.

Hello, SlackSeat.

Slack Seat is something between a comfy kneeling thwart and a hammock for your heinie. You sit on it, but with your legs tucked under, in the kneeling position. It’s adaptable, so you can change the height and change how you sit on it. Stretch a leg, raise your height, lean a little more to the left—no one likes sitting in the same position for too long.

Paddle your way.

The adjustable cam buckle system and gunnel grips allow for natural shifts and micro-adjustments in your paddling positions, so you can paddle the way you want.

Temporary and portable

Slack Seat’s universal gunnel grips mean NO changes to your canoe.

Works as a third centre-seat

There’s no need to install a permanent middle seat for the kids, pack SlackSeat.
